Taking months or even years to create, this gorgeous carpet was painstakingly crafted by tying pieces of vegetable-dyed wool around a cotton warp in thousands upon thousands of individual knots. A true labor of love, the resulting carpet is marked by subtle imperfections that reveal the weaver's hand.

This rectangular area carpet dates to the early 20th century and features a Peking-style floral medallion-plain design. Knotted in a palette of gold, blue, and purple, the carpet is patterned with five round medallions of geometric fretwork and lotus flowers, symbols of purity and perfection. Clusters of flowers and offering fruits dot the surrounding purple-brown field, enclosed by a border of floral scrollwork.
