Lacquered Tea Bowl

This lacquered tea bowl dates back to the Qing Dynasty and was made in China’s Shanxi region using traditional & labor intensive traditional lacquer techniques. The top, with delicately rendered bamboo and floral paintings, doubles as a tea plate. The level of skill and craftsmanship concentrated into such a small, precious object is inspiring. It is likely that 30 coats or more of lacquer was hand applied to achieve this enduring lustrous finish.
