This unusual stone pedestal is actually a late 19th-century cylindrical mill stone. Hand-carved of solid limestone with a textured and ribbed surface, the stone was used for threshing wheat and other grains on a farm in China's Shanxi province. The heavy stone roller would have been pulled, by man or ox, across a grain harvest to separate the grain from the straw and chaff. Shortened for use as a seat or side table, the limestone column has a minimalist form that blends effortlessly into any interior.
