A dark glaze cloaks the high, angular shoulders and tapered body of this squat kitchen vessel, save for the unfinished lip and base. The early 20th-century ceramic basin was once used for pickling foods in a Qing-dynasty kitchen, as evidenced by its interior glaze. Dotted with subtle imperfections, the lustrous dark glaze evenly coats the exterior, giving the basin a refined, glassy appearance.
