Although oushak carpets have been woven in western Turkey since the beginning of the Ottoman empire, they came into particularly high demand at the turn of the 20th century for their room-sized scale and simple designs. Woven using a sturdy knot known as the Ghiordes knot, these carpets have a lower knot count per square inch, allowing for more impactful, geometric motifs, as seen in this carpet. Compared to other carpets from the region, this style of oushak stands out for its high-contrast graphic presence, kept in perfect balance by a subdued palette of cream and tonal neutrals. This vintage treasure feels instantly at home in a contemporary setting.
