This fanciful Limoges porcelain trinket box charms with soft color and hand-painted decoration. Limoges is a type of porcelain exclusive to the French City of Limoges, a center for the porcelain industry since the 18th century. Limoges porcelain boxes emerged in the mid-18th century and were originally used to store trinkets, cosmetics, tobacco, and pills. This basket shaped Limoges box was crafted by the esteemed Limoges company Chamart. It was hand painted with alluring shades of pink and gold and clasps shut with a clover shaped latch. Underside of box bears Limoges mark.

From the collection of Frances and Gary Comer.
