Hand-carved with an abstract design, this tall wooden post was originally used as a support beam in the home of a Nupe family of Nigeria. Like much of Nupe art, support posts are typically carved with simple geometric forms, rather than figurative designs that depict a spirit or reflect familial histories. We’re captivated by the elegant spiral twist of this minimalist sculpture and the subtle chiseled texture of the hand-carved surface.

“I am particularly fond of PAGODA RED as we have known the family for so long. Betsy is a professional in every way and her intelligent taste comes from a long line of family knowledge in the arts. She and her team are the very best to work with and we find treasures with every visit!”
