This pair of very fine cabinets is made of esteemed ironwood, which comes from the tallest Chinese hardwood tree and has a natural deep color, appealing coarse texture and distintive open grain. The doors are each a solid plank of of this precious timber and the aprons are scalloped and finely carved with trailing vines. Even the solid back panels were thoughtfully designed to be conveniently removed, like very early Chinese cabinetry styles, for ease of delivery and transport. The white brass hardware was made by hand to contour to the frames of the doors. Traditionally, cabinets like this would have contained prized antiques, scroll paintings and scholarly books.
