Known as "ta," this type of low-lying daybed was used throughout the home as a portable surface for reclining, playing games, and gathering for food and drink. This 19th-century example features a woven rattan top set within a square frame with waisted apron and simple beaded detail. The daybed is supported by four short cabriole legs ending in claw-form feet. A lacquer finish darkens the elmwood frame to a rich burgundy and elegantly contrasts the light brown woven top.
