This 19th-century hardwood kang table was traditionally used as a convenient working surface for painting, writing, sewing, or eating atop a heated kang platform. The petite table features a rectangular floating-panel top, straight legs and a simple apron decorated with brass inlay of trailing vines. The legs and sides are uniquely decorated with ridged detailing meant to mimic the stacked construction of bamboo furniture, a motif sometimes referred to as "incense stick bundles.” The short corner legs end in hoof feet carved with cloud-form square spiral designs. Ideal today as a display stand or pedestal, the low kang table has a beautiful dark brown finish, textured with antique wear and a wonderful aged patina.

Multiple losses to the carved apron. Minor repairs to splits to wood.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
