Originally part of a much larger painting, these deer are beautifully detailed against a background of what appears to be an imperial courtyard. Delicately picked out in white and black, the deer was a symbol of wealth and longevity, perfect natural visitors for the home of a member of the imperial court. This painting is one piece from a collection of trade objects we recently acquired from one of our favorite artists. During his travels around the world, he purchased items whose stories, forms, finishes and culture would go on to inspire his later work. From that larger collection, we curated spirited items that inspire us and highlight the cross-cultural nature that defines PAGODA RED's design aesthetic.
