Japanese Sake Bottle

This glazed ceramic jar is a Japanese sake bottle from the late-Meiji era. The jar is painted on three sides with dark brown calligraphy atop an even cream glaze. The expressive brushwork has bold, graphic impact and imbues the simple jar with graceful movement.
