There are dozens of finishes that can imitate the look of crackled lacquer but nothing can compare to the real thing. After this stately cabinet was constructed around 1850, it was given layers upon layers of black lacquer, a time-consuming process that built up a lustrous and protective coating. Over a hundred years of use and shifting humidity and heat levels stressed the coating, giving the cabinet it’s pronounced and highly sought-after crackles.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
