Unglazed Stamped Clay Jar

Over a century ago, a gifted potter from northern China crafted this organic clay jar out of rich dark river clay mined from the river basins of Asia. The surface is stamped bands of symbols: hashmarks, flowers, leaves, and abstract geometries. The effect is a field of eye-catching textures that call to be touched. Left entirely uncolored, the natural progression of the clay has created varying textures of clouded and smooth surfaces.
