Central African Blade Currency

Many pre-coinage African currencies were formed after objects of inherent practical value. This three-pronged iron currency piece is shaped in reference to hand-held throwing knifes, such as the kpinga or the mambele. Integral to defensive combat, smithed weaponry unsurprisingly became a display of status and a form of intercultural currency.
