This finely crafted mortar and pestle was cast by hand of iron during the late 19th century in the Shanxi region of China. It is decorated with lotus pods and blossoms, symbols of growth and harmony. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is believed that herbal medicine alone could not cure a person’s illness. A physician would strive to help balance their patient's vital energy, or yin and yang—a person is believed to become ill when these two aspects lose harmony.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
