This provincial container made the hard work of harvesting grain a little easier for farmers living in Shanxi, China. Paired with a similar container, the pail could be balanced on a pole threaded through the large raised handles. Years of use have weathered the Qing-dynasty container with priceless authenticity and a functional essence that lives on as a basket for magazines, toys, firewood or balls of yarn.
